Grace Church petitioned the Bishop of Connecticut on April 12, 1847 to become associated with the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut. The money for building the original church was raised in October 1845 throughout the community. The building was dedicated on April 14, 1847. It was located on the corner of Main Street and Church St. in Broad Brook. After 115 years, time and weather had taken its toll on the old stone building, and in 1962, due to structural defects, it was torn down.
The parishioners kept the spirit of Grace alive over the next few years by meeting at the local Masonic Temple on Main St. and also at the Congregational Church. They were determined to keep their church family together and through faith and persistence managed to appropriate funds to rebuild their church.
The new Grace Church was constructed on Old Ellington Rd in Broad Brook in 1964, and continues to thrive in the new millennium. Grace has a new vitality thanks to the dedicated support of our many parishioners, the leadership of our vestry, and the inspired guidance of our new Vicar.
We invite you to visit us at Grace Church, and know that when you do, you come not as a stranger, but as a guest of God.
